About

The cable crossover is a chest exercise performed while standing between two weight stacks. You grasp a handle in each hand, step forward to the center of the machine, and bring your hands together in front of you along a wide arc, maintaining a slight, constant bend in your elbows. This movement engages the pectoralis major; the anterior deltoid and coracobrachialis assist in moving the arm across the body, while the serratus anterior and pectoralis minor help stabilize the scapula. Because the angle of the elbow remains fixed, the chest performs the work that, in a pressing movement, would otherwise be shared with the triceps through elbow extension.

How to do it

  1. 1Move your hands downward and forward in a wide arc, keeping your torso stationary and your elbows slightly bent.
  2. 2Bring the handles together or cross them slightly in front of your pelvis.
  3. 3Under control, return along the same arc, stopping before your shoulders begin to move forward.
