Lifting a barbell from the floor until you stand fully upright. One of the strongest compound lifts: it works the spinal erectors, glutes, hamstrings, quadriceps and grip. The key is a neutral back throughout the lift.
How to do it
- 1Stand with the bar over midfoot and feet hip width apart.
- 2Hinge down and grip the bar just outside your legs.
- 3Drop your hips, flatten your back and pull your shoulders back.
- 4Lift by pushing the floor away, keeping the bar against your legs.
- 5Stand fully upright at the top, then lower along the same path.
