About

A lying triceps extension—often called a "French press"—is an exercise performed on a bench that involves extending the arms at the elbows while lowering a barbell toward or beyond the forehead. It targets the triceps brachii (along with the anconeus muscle). This movement is distinct from overhead triceps extensions, which are performed with the arms positioned above the head.

How to do it

  1. 1Bend your elbows and lower the barbell behind your head in a controlled manner, keeping your upper arms stationary.
  2. 2Stop when your forearms make contact with your upper arms, or when your shoulders limit the range of motion.
  3. 3Straighten your arms, ensuring your elbows do not flare outward.
