About

A hip hinge with a barbell and nearly straight legs: the movement comes from pushing the hips back. It mainly targets the hamstrings and glutes while the spinal erectors hold a neutral back. Lower the bar only as far as your back stays flat.

How to do it

  1. 1Stand tall holding the bar with a grip just outside your thighs.
  2. 2Bend your knees slightly and keep them in that position.
  3. 3Push your hips back, sliding the bar along your thighs and shins.
  4. 4Lower until you feel a strong stretch in the hamstrings.
  5. 5Return by driving the hips forward and squeezing the glutes.
